Smoothies are one of my favourite things to whip up for breakfast or when I need a snack to keep me going between main meals.
I’m always experimenting with new flavour combinations but I find I keep coming back to three of the same smoothies because they’re full of flavour and pack in a lot of nutrition.
All three of these smoothies are very different in taste and texture so there’s sure to be one to suit your preference.
I hope you enjoy them!
1. Goodness green smoothie
Did someone say detox? This smoothie is perfect if you’re feeling a bit sluggish or if you’ve been indulging a bit more than usual (Too much pizza last night? Try this!)
It is quite refreshing and packs in plenty of vegetables so is a great option if you need to increase your veg intake.
The recipe below makes two servings. I usually make one to drink immediately and store the other in a glass bottle in the fridge to have the following day.
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of coconut water
1 Lebanese cucumber
the juice of half a small lemon
the juice of one orange
1 small stick of celery (approx 10cm long)
a handful of spinach leaves
2 teaspoons of chia seeds
2 teaspoons of green powder
Method:
Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend for about a minute. Serve and enjoy!

2. Chocolate shake smoothie
This smoothie is one of my absolute favourites. It tastes so good, I sometimes can’t believe that it’s not naughty.
It combines the thickness and sweetness of a shake, without the nasties. With fibre, protein and antioxidants, this one is a winner!
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of coconut water
1 frozen medium banana
⅓ cup of rolled oats
1 tablespoon almond butter
¼ cup of raw cashews
2 tablespoons of cacao powder
1 teaspoon of chia seeds
1 teaspoon of maca powder (optional)
Cacao nibs, to garnish (optional)
Method:
Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend for about a minute. Serve in a glass and sprinkle with cacao nibs. Enjoy!
Serves 2
(Note: This smoothie is quite thick, the way I like it, but if you prefer a more liquid texture just add more water.)
3. Berry medley smoothie
This smoothie combines three different types of berries and has the most gorgeous pink colour.
The tartness of the lemon juice and the yoghurt make for a tangy flavour, while the berries and maca powder give this smoothie a natural sweetness. The oats and banana help to achieve the perfect consistency.
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of coconut water
¼ cup of rolled oats
1 banana
⅓ cup of frozen raspberries
⅓ cup of frozen blueberries
⅓ cup of fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons of Greek yoghurt (or coconut yoghurt to make it vegan)
1 teaspoon of maca powder
1 teaspoon of chia seeds
A squeeze of lemon juice
Method:
Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend for about a minute. Serve and enjoy!
Serves 2
